Artist Spotlight: Lucie Browder Branch
Lucie Browder Branch will be showcasing her one-of-a-kind wearable art at the Weldon & Beyond Art Show this weekend. A textile artist with deep family roots in Weldon, Lucie brings vintage fabrics and well-worn denim back to life through her upcycled designs. Her brand, Roots of Revision, reflects a love for creativity, heritage, and sustainable fashion. With memories of thrifting with her grandmother and inspiration drawn from her grandfather’s overalls, Lucie’s art is as nostalgic as it is innovative. Be sure to stop by Weldon Mills Distillery on Friday or Saturday to see her work in person and experience the blend of memory, craftsmanship, and modern design that defines her creations.
Artist Profile: Lucie Browder Branch
Lucie Browder Branch has lifelong memories of spending weekends and holidays visiting her grandparents, Jean and Boots Branch, in Weldon. These trips often included antique shopping and thrifting with Jean at Weldon’s Riverside Mill and the Red Wagon on Washington Avenue. And, then there were her grandfather’s overalls! Who knew then that spending time with him would instill in her a love of denim that would later become a feature of her future designs!
Lucie’s creative journey began around age 11, when her mom, Ann, who grew up in Weldon, enrolled the two of them in a mother/daughter quilting class. Lucie’s love of working with fabrics was further bolstered with the gift a sewing machine she received that same year for Christmas. When it was time for college, she chose to attend N.C. State’s Wilson College of Textiles. From there, she has combined her educational background in textiles, a love of vintage fabrics and denims (a nod back to her grandad’s overalls) and her skills as a seamstress to create one-of-a-kind wearable art that she makes by upcycling and transforming vintage and well-worn clothing into something totally new. Turning her craft to a livelihood, she has partnered and worked with retail shop owners over the past several years, first at a Gypsy Jule in downtown Raleigh and now at Possibilities Boutique in Cary, where her Roots of Revision brand is featured.
With her roots firmly planted in Weldon and her skill as a textile artist now well established, Lucie, is looking forward to displaying her art at the Weldon and Beyond Art Show this weekend. Come by the Weldon Mills Distillery this Friday or Saturday where the art show is being held to view Lucie’s Roots of Revision designs and her mom, Ann’s photography, as well as beautiful and interesting creations from many talented artists with connections to Weldon and the surrounding area.
