Join us for The Irvin Francis Kyle III Speaker Program and an evening exploring Weldon’s rich railroad history, beginning in the 1800s. Meet Tony Reevy, renowned railroad historian and published author, as he shares his knowledge of the history and impact of railroading in Weldon and beyond.

Guests will also have the opportunity to see model trains representing various periods in history and hear from local voices during a Q&A and storytelling session. Come connect with the stories, people, and railroad history that helped shape Weldon, North Carolina.

EXCITING NEWS FOR WELDON — AND WE WANT YOUR INPUT!

The Town of Weldon is applying for up to $100,000 in grant funding for the proposed Weldon River Loop, a new natural trail that would connect the existing Canal Trail to the Roanoke River State Trail.

Yes — the Roanoke River is a State Trail! The proposed project would create another way for residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors and experience one of Weldon’s greatest natural resources.

The proposed approximately ¼-mile trail would be located on eight acres of Town-owned land and could include:

• A natural trail for hiking and biking

• River access for viewing and fishing

• Benches and a picnic table

• Covered trash cans

• Trail signage and wayfinding

Another exciting part of this opportunity: because of Weldon’s town size, no matching funds are required from the Town to secure the grant.

The Weldon Town Council voted to apply for the grant on September 14, 2026, and the project has support from area organizations including the Canal Commission and Roanoke River Partners.

Honoring Weldon’s History & Legacy | September 19

Join Weldon In Action on Saturday, September 19 at 2:00 PM at Ralph J. Bunche Park, located at the intersection of First and Water Streets in Weldon, for a special memorial marker unveiling.

We will honor Dr. McMillian and Dock and Helen Brown—pillars of the Weldon community whose lives and contributions are an important part of the history and legacy of Ralph J. Bunche School.

Their families will be on hand for the unveiling and to share their stories and history. The program will also include local officials, family members, and special guests.

Refreshments will be served. We invite the community to come enjoy the park, learn more about Weldon’s history, and join us in celebrating the lasting legacy of these remarkable individuals.

Volunteers are needed! We are looking for help with setup, refreshments, parking, and breakdown.

Our next Weldon In Action Community Meeting will be held on Thursday, July 16, from 5:30–7:00 PM at Halifax Community College, Building 800, Room 825 in Weldon. Please arrive a few minutes early, as the program will begin promptly at 5:30 PM.

This month's meeting features special guests from Main Street Edenton, who will share how North Carolina's Main Street Program helps communities revitalize downtowns, support local businesses, preserve historic character, and strengthen local economies. Main Street Edenton is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the vitality of historic downtown Edenton through leadership, collaboration, business development, and community engagement.

Community Input Meeting: Proposed Social District

Town officials are exploring the creation of a new Social District and are inviting the community to be part of the conversation.

Join us for a public interest meeting where ideas will be shared, questions can be asked, and feedback is encouraged. This is an opportunity to learn more about what a Social District could look like and help shape its direction.
