EXCITING NEWS FOR WELDON — AND WE WANT YOUR INPUT!

The Town of Weldon is applying for up to $100,000 in grant funding for the proposed Weldon River Loop, a new natural trail that would connect the existing Canal Trail to the Roanoke River State Trail.

Yes — the Roanoke River is a State Trail! The proposed project would create another way for residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors and experience one of Weldon’s greatest natural resources.

The proposed approximately ¼-mile trail would be located on eight acres of Town-owned land and could include:

• A natural trail for hiking and biking

• River access for viewing and fishing

• Benches and a picnic table

• Covered trash cans

• Trail signage and wayfinding

Another exciting part of this opportunity: because of Weldon’s town size, no matching funds are required from the Town to secure the grant.

The Weldon Town Council voted to apply for the grant on September 14, 2026, and the project has support from area organizations including the Canal Commission and Roanoke River Partners.
