Historical Highlights of the 19th Century Churches in Weldon NC

Weldon’s rich religious heritage began shortly after the town’s incorporation in 1843. By the late 19th century, six churches had been established, becoming pillars of faith, community, and perseverance. These included Weldon Methodist Church (1845), Grace Episcopal (1863), Weldon Baptist Church (1865), First Baptist Church of Weldon (1866), St. Matthews AME Church (1871), and St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church (1883).
